Which schools can my child go on to after the SET?

Six schools share the Sutton SET. Boys can go on to Sutton Grammar, Wallington County Grammar and Wilson's. Girls can go on to Nonsuch High School for Girls and Wallington High School for Girls. Greenshaw High School, which takes boys and girls, uses the SET for up to 60 ability places. The SET email tells you which of these your child met the standard for.

What are the Sutton SET second stage tests?

The grammar schools hold a written second stage for children who pass the SET. Boys sit one shared test for Sutton Grammar, Wallington County and Wilson's on Saturday 3 October 2026: a Maths paper and an English paper. Girls sit the Nonsuch and Wallington second stage (NWSSEE) on Saturday 26 September 2026: a Maths paper and an English paper with no comprehension, each 40 to 50 minutes and not multiple choice. Greenshaw has no second stage.

Does passing mean my child gets a place?

No. Passing the SET only opens the second stage, and passing the second stage only makes your child eligible. Sutton Grammar, Nonsuch, Wallington Girls and Greenshaw all say more children qualify than they have places. Offers follow each school's published priority order: children with an EHCP naming the school and looked after children first, then groups such as Pupil Premium places, postcode or distance places and places by score. Your order of preference on the CAF matters too. Offers come from your home council on 1 March 2027.

What if the email only gave scores?

Scores mean your child did not meet the standard for any school. They are not eligible for the five grammar schools or a Greenshaw ability place, though Greenshaw's other criteria still apply. The schools advise not naming a grammar school on the CAF unless you may appeal, because you can only appeal for a school you named. Questions parents ask

Can my son pass the SET for one school and not another?

Yes. Each school may set its own SET pass mark after marking, and the email names the schools he met the standard for. The boys' second stage is one shared test, but Sutton Grammar, Wallington County and Wilson's each apply their own standard to it.

Do I need a separate form for each school?

No. The SET registration form is also the supplementary form for every school in the group. To apply, you name the schools on your home council's Common Application Form by 31 October 2026.

When do we hear the second stage result?

The schools email the outcome by the end of October 2026, before the CAF deadline, so you know which schools to name. For girls, the joint Nonsuch and Wallington email says she is eligible without giving scores. For boys, the schools say only that the outcome will be emailed.

Can the SET be re-marked?

No. The schools do not offer a review or re-mark. Every answer sheet is marked twice, first by machine and then by hand.

What is the Sutton SET pass mark?

It is not published in advance. The schools decide pass marks after marking, and each school may set its own. The pass is based on the total of English and Maths, so a strong paper can make up for a weaker one.
